Welcome to Jumpmind Reveal, a blog series showcasing some of the talented folks we have here at Jumpmind. In today’s installment, we bring you a profile on Alex Mach, one of Jumpmind’s software engineers.
Where are you from? Where did you go to school?
I grew up in the Dayton, Ohio, area and went to Bowling Green State University. I’ve been in the Columbus area since graduating.
What brought you to Jumpmind?
I knew Dan (Dan Kaste, Director of Engineering at Jumpmind), and the kind of work Jumpmind was doing and the technology they were using. After consulting for nearly a decade, I liked the idea of having a dedicated focus on a single product and seeing the full realization of what that product could be.
What are you most passionate about?
I’d probably have to say my family is what I’m most passionate about, but I also brew beer at home as a hobby, so that might be a close second. Over the past few years, I’ve become very popular with our neighbors as I always brew up a batch of beer for our Fourth of July parties and at Halloween. My beers lean toward the taste of a blonde ale or lager.
I also played golf when I was younger and have enjoyed getting back into the sport over the past year.
You’ve had an opportunity to travel with Jumpmind? What’s been your most exciting trip?
Most definitely traveling to Dubai to support one of our customers there; it truly is like nowhere else I’ve ever traveled. If I had to use three words to describe Dubai, they would probably be: Hot, bustling and diverse. It’s like a cross between Miami and Las Vegas.
I played 18 holes of golf while I was there, and it probably goes without saying, but it was really, REALLY hot.
What does your family think about your travel?
I’ve been to Dubai twice now, and each time I’ve been there for two weeks at a time. I have two daughters, aged 4 and 8, so being on the other side of the world with a significant time difference was very difficult. My wife basically had to be a single parent during these times. She actually happens to be an event planner, so those organizational skills really came in handy managing everything solo while I was away.
