Jumpmind Reveal:Brad Wilmer Shares the Deets on Life at Jumpmind and Good Eats in Columbus
Welcome to Jumpmind Reveal, a blog series showcasing some of the talented folks we have here at Jumpmind. In today’s installment, we bring you a profile on Brad Wilmer, Director of Sales at Jumpmind.
Brad, tell us about your role at Jumpmind.
I’ve worn a lot of different hats at Jumpmind, from sales, marketing and even collecting invoices, but I’ve always wanted to be a sales guy — at the end of the day, I love selling and building relationships with our clients. I come from a family of engineers, but something about sales drew me in early.
I lead sales for SymmetricDS, Jumpmind’s open-source data replication platform, and I’m very proud of the long-term customer relationships I’ve built. We have about a 90 to 95% renewal rate, which is almost unheard of in this industry. That’s a tremendous credit to our team and of course the product.
You have been at Jumpmind for almost 15 years. How has the company changed since the early days?
I was one of the first employees at Jumpmind and at first it was super unstructured; this was a big switch for me because I came from a sales role at a Fortune 500 company. When we first started, meetings were around a ping pong table because we didn’t want to pay for a real conference table at the time.
Today, Jumpmind has grown significantly, and we have long-established relationships with a great roster of brands and retailers. We have more structure and even a conference table now, but what hasn’t changed is our commitment to integrity and authenticity. It’s been baked into our brand since the start.
Where can we find you outside of work?
I’m usually golfing or running with my wife. My wife runs marathons and I often joke that if I don’t go running with her, I might never see her!
We’re empty nesters, so we have a good deal of free time on our hands these days. My oldest daughter works in sales and my youngest is a sophomore at The Ohio State University, my alma mater. We’re a Buckeye family so that means probably at this very moment 15-20% of my wardrobe is Ohio State gear.
I also love to cook — mostly comfort food and anything on the grill. Think steak tips, chicken and rice, lasagna and steak.
Speaking of eats, what’s the best place for a business lunch in Columbus?
If it’s a casual lunch with coworkers, we’re going to The Thurman Café in German Village; they have great burgers. But if I’m really wining and dining someone, nothing beats Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse.
What’s one fun fact that readers should know about you?
Some people know that my brother is Greg Wilmer (former Jumpmind President and CEO), but I’m one of five kids. I have a twin brother, and my wife is a twin too. My brother and I are fraternal twins, while my wife and her sister are identical. And before you ask, no, we’ve never been to the Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio!
