Meet Shaun Britton: Minding the In-Store Retail Innovation Gap in EMEA
Welcome to Jumpmind Reveal, a blog series showcasing some of the talented folks we have here at Jumpmind. In today’s installment, we bring you a profile on Shaun Britton, our Vice President of EMEA who is based in the London area.
Can you tell us what led you to Jumpmind?
I have worked in the retail technology space for many years, and have always been interested in point-of-service (POS) technology. I liked how Jumpmind was changing the rhetoric around in-store commerce and how its enterprise POS technology is delivered (supporting any device, any operating system and any cloud). European and Middle Eastern consumers are increasingly demanding outstanding omnichannel retailer experiences, and Jumpmind’s technology is well-positioned to help retailers capitalise on this opportunity.
When the chance to help establish and grow Jumpmind’s presence in EMEA arose, I jumped. I know it’s a role I’ll enjoy greatly as I get to wear many hats – I’m a business development representative one minute, a sales executive the next, and then I’m also running marketing and sales operations.
I’m looking forward to building out a team and laying the foundation for Jumpmind’s success in the region.
Tell us a little more about what you’ve been doing so far.
A top priority has been raising awareness of the Jumpmind brand in EMEA – what we do, and who we are. So, I’ve spent a lot of time introducing Jumpmind to my network and identifying opportunities to connect Jumpmind to retailers in the region. Longer term, I’m also building out a strategy for EMEA from both a technical and account perspective.
Sounds like you have a lot of work carved out for you! So, when you’re not working, where can we find you?
Golf is a huge passion of mine. I’ve played at some amazing courses, like Gleneagles in Scotland, which is both stunningly beautiful and incredibly challenging.
On the weekends, I also have a second job as a parent taxi driver. Most of my time is spent shepherding my son back and forth to his football (that’s football as in Soccer) matches!
Before you ended up in retail tech, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was very young, I wanted to be a dustman – which in North America is a garbage collector. As I got older, I dreamed of playing professional rugby. Unfortunately, I was injured in my early 20s, which put an end to that aspiration.
What’s the best vacation you ever took?
Without a doubt, it was traveling to Tanzania for a safari. We took a balloon tour that allowed us to see the sweeping views of the Serengeti and wildlife below, which was absolutely amazing.
Sounds pretty amazing! Any other fun facts to share before we wrap this up?
I have an amazing wife, five children, two fish and three dogs. My dogs are pointers (2 English, 1 GSP) and they would probably be excellent hunting dogs if properly trained. However, they live a lovely pampered life at my house in the countryside instead.
