Meet Shreejana Rimal: From Nepal to Columbus, Ohio – and on Finding Balance and Purpose
Welcome to Jumpmind Reveal, a blog series showcasing some of the talented folks we have here at Jumpmind. In today’s installment, we bring you a profile on Shreejana Rimal, who joined Jumpmind in March 2025.
Tell us, how did you come to Jumpmind?
My background was in retail – I worked for Big Lots for the last 13 years. I knew a few colleagues who were joining Jumpmind and they were kind enough to make the introduction. I had heard a lot of positive things about Jumpmind technology and the company’s culture, and I was excited for a new opportunity in a fast-growing firm in the retail space.
My title at Jumpmind is product owner, which means I manage building applications for our clients. I help gather requirements and serve as a bridge between the client and developers, translating requirements for both technical and non-technical audiences. I also manage the quality assurance team, which ensures everything is good before being shipped to clients.
I love talking to people and learning about different applications and projects; I’m very curious. If something doesn’t work one way, I wonder why we can’t do it differently. This curiosity drives me, and I have a never-ending desire to improve things and make them better for customers. At Jumpmind, there are a lot of people with different ways of thinking, which makes coming up with great ideas easy.
You’re originally from Nepal. What was that like, and what brought you to the US?
I came from Nepal almost 20 years ago to attend graduate school at the University of Findlay, which is north of Columbus. After this, I moved to New York and Maryland for various jobs before returning to Ohio for my job at Big Lots in Columbus.
My childhood in Nepal holds some of the best memories. We didn’t have access to the internet until maybe 20 years ago, and we were behind in technology. So, I grew up spending a lot of time with friends and being outdoors. I have a big family on both my dad and mom’s side, and a lot of cousins. We had less financially, but we had so much in terms of positive experiences growing up.
I try to go back to Nepal every year for at least a few weeks to be with my mom, who still lives there, and to visit my father-in-law, who lives nearby. My brother lives in Australia now, and my family is based here in North America. My husband and I have a daughter who is 22 and just graduated from The Ohio State University.
What’s it like living in Columbus for you?
Many people think Columbus is just a city in the Midwest without much to do. But if you live here, you will be surprised to find a blend of both city vibes and a more laid-back feeling.
Columbus also has many good bakeries and restaurants. And good hiking and Lake Erie are both within an easy drive.
Where can we find you outside of work?
Over the past few summers, I picked up gardening. I wouldn’t say I have a green thumb or a lot of knowledge, but it’s something I always wanted to do and which I enjoy.
As a family, we enjoy traveling to different parts of the world, experiencing different cultures and eating new foods. We also watch a lot of movies together. My favorite genre is action drama. I’ve watched the Bourne series many times, and I also enjoy Marvel films.
My all-time favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. I love how it’s a story of hope and perseverance.
